With the Black & Decker Leaf Hog, you can clean up both the deck and the lawn with one reasonably priced and easy-to-maintain machine. This blower/vac is electric, so it requires an extension cord and an electric outlet to run, but there's nothing else to set up or maintain. The 12 amp motor has considerable power for its size, more than enough to clear driveways or decks or blow off sections of lawn. At just over 7 pounds, the Leaf Hog is light enough to use for long periods of time, and it's also quiet enough to use at any time of day. Switching from blowing to vacuuming is a snap--literally. The correct button took us a moment to find, but once you've located it, you simply depress it and remove the blowing unit, then attach the vacuum extension in its place. The extension has a bag for mulch, which attaches with a small clasp. When vacuuming, the unit mulches by sucking leaves through the fan assembly. Though this model, with its patented Vortex anticlog vacuum system, does a better job of remaining unclogged than most, you still need to be careful to avoid rocks and sticks. It also has a variable-speed control that lets you choose between 150 and 200 mph blower speed.

The attached bagger is somewhat cumbersome to use and empty, produces copious amounts of leaf-dust, but overall, this product works quite well in vacuuming lots of leaf and yard material. This product is a typical, yet usable, B&D design. The handle-mounted power cord lock is somewhat difficult to use, but works fairly well after the cord is "locked" into a type of holder that could be improved. It is a powerful vacuum and works very well with high amounts of dry leaf material. The product does what it is intended to do, no more, no less.
The blower itself seems really powerful and really moves the leaves around. As I write this review the current price is at $49.99. Rather than fight with Amazon's return policy and go through even more hassle I decided to just live with it and take it as a lesson learned. I ordered the Black & Decker 12-AMP Electric Blower/Vacuum/Mulcher #BV2500, it was $55.56 when i ordered it, and i cose two day shipping for an extra $12.66. Unlike any of the other 200+ items I've ordered from Amazon, for some reason this item required someone to actually be home to sign for the item so I got to sit and watch it not get delivered each day as the price dropped a couple of dollars each day after I ordered it and realized that I could've just bought the item at a local hardware store for a better price and less hassle. The mulcher seems a little scary as it actually seems to suck up small twigs and debris better than leaves and makes some pretty disturbing noises as they try to go through. When I finally received the item I soon realized that the package had been re-taped and was obviously USED, with missing packaging, manuals, warranty card and obvious wear and tear on the blower itself.
I had an older version of the Leaf Hog and had nothing but trouble with it. I am all for electric yard equipment (that's all I own), but recommend that you buy some other brand name. B&D does not seem to put the quality into their products that they used to and are much more interested in selling new versions than in keeping older version in service. I had to rebuild the switch mechanism two times (plastic parts kept breaking) and then the motor died (bushings shot) and there were NO replacement parts available.
Fast shipping too. Great product, great Amazon.com purchase, combined with AmEx points, got a best buy on this.
Well, I thought I received a good deal. Im bummed. But on my third use it literally burned up as I was useing it.
