Black & Decker Leaf Hog 12 Amp Electric Blower/Vacuum/Mulcher #BV4000

Leaving nothing behind for the rake to gather, Black & Decker?s LeafHog blower snorts out a whopping 230-mph blow-speed for rooting up wet, matted leaves, heavy piles of debris, and more. That?s right. That stubborn windrow of leaves hunkered down next to the fence line is no match for the LeafHog. Like a handheld hurricane, this baby keeps the leaves blowing fast, even as they pile up high against the friction of the fence line and in those down-sloping corners of the yard. No more scooping debris into awkward garbage bags either, this blower converts to a vacuum with the push of a button. An easy-empty bag design dumps mulched leaves quickly. And, an anti-clog mechanism resists clogging during mulching operations. Knowing that most blowers are so loud they overpower earplugs and cause headaches on extended jobs, Black & Decker hushed down the LeafHog with a low-noise design that operates at a maximum of 66 decibels. Ideal for clearing lawns, driveways, sidewalks, decks, and garages of leaves, grass clippings, and other debris, this blower also features a 10-to-1 mulch ratio that, for example, reduces 10 bags of raked leaves down to 1 bag of mulch for healthier lawns and gardens. Black & Decker covers this blower with a full, 2-year warranty. --Brian D. Olson

Black & Decker Leaf Hog 12 Amp Electric Blower/Vacuum/Mulcher #BV4000 Reviews

We have had 2 of these (from Lowe's), used primarily for vacuuming. I'm planning to buy a Toro 51599 instead. Major complaint is that the motor burned out in about a year each time. Works pretty well on leaves and grass, but will not pick up acorns.

The sad thing is, it's not worth bothering to send it back(to the manufacturer). Overheated with first use, even using a heavy duty cord.

It began smoking from the engine, losing horsepower and suction, and then stopping very rapidly. I will not use B&D blowers, mulchers or trimmers again in the future after this experience.

The LeafHog I was sent was obvious used, with scuff marks all over the engine housing and extension pieces, with a bag that did not fit the model provided (good thing I still had the first bag). It took about an hour of arguing with a Black & Decker operator and a week of waiting to receive a replacement (this is the BV4000 Type 4 I own, not the Type 1 with the recall).

I bought my LeafHog this summer from a department store in Annapolis, and its engine failed within 5 minutes of operation. After checking that I was using the correct voltage from the outlet and line, and making sure that there were no other factors, I called B&D.

I STRONGLY advise against purchasing a LeafHog. Black and Decker does not have a way to submit complaints very easily, but it is clear that they are not committed to making quality yard equipment that stands up to their advertisements.

This one died after about 20 minutes of mulching dry, loose leaves and straw.

After 10 minutes of use right out of the box it started emitting an electrical burning smell and also lost a lot of power. This is extremely dangerous. Bought this brand new from Lowes. I would give zero stars and recommend that you stay away. It's a great way to burn your house down or cause you to get electrocuted. You can see sparks flying.

I hated it. I finally threw this thing in the trash this morning after it sprayed me with leaf debris and dust for the umpteenth time. The catch bag comes loose on a regular basis, spraying the operator with dirt. The vacuum nozzle is large in diameter and makes it difficult to suck up leaves from between rocks. It's heavy and awkward to use, with the provided shoulder strap not helping to distribute the weight much at all.
