DEWALT DW744X 10-Inch Jobsite Table Saw - 24 1/2-Inch Max Rip Capacity Reviews
I have had one of these for years and the only complaint I have is that the fence will not stay even with the blade. I swapped it out for a new one and it has the same problem.
Once a decision on a recall or other corrective action is made, I expect B&D will have a range of serial numbers that could be defective. The 24" rip capacity was a major consideration along with the need for an overall top-quality tool. The 744X remains my saw of choice but I am not going to risk buying one that has a known defect. I expect that without the defect it would be a four or five-star product. Yesterday [17 March 2008] I spoke with a Black & Decker representative who told me they were presently considering what action to take on this issue.
I gave it three stars because I had to fill in something. Let's hope for quick action by B&D. It has been resolved on saws of very recent manufacture but potentially defective saws are still out there on the market. I spent considerable time researching job-site table saws and concluded that the DeWalt DW744X was the best fit for my work. However, some of these saws have a manufacturing defect as noted by others on this forum. Though I need to get a saw on site soon, I am going to wait a couple of weeks to see what B&D is going to do about this.
With the defect it would rate zero stars. No such information is presently available.
It's OK for normal ripping but sometimes I need a sacrificial auxiliary fence attached to it for dadoing. Overall it's great.
The stand is very sturdy yet lightweight, and collapes easy. Not too heavy, I have carried it 100 feet from truck to worksite many times.
Great portable saw, easy to tilt, raise and lower blade. I use it on the job site and in my shop at home.
I reccomend it. This fence has no holes in it to attach a sacrificial fence, have to clamp it.
My only negative is the fence.
It was so tight It wouldn' move. It was a great little saw. The fence would hang on the right miter slot. I'm very dissappointed in the factory setup on these saws. But frankly, I would think twice before purchasing a DeWalt saw agaain. I need a bigger fence area.
And the pinion gears jumped off the track when trying to adjust the fence. I believe once I get beyond these poor factory quality issues I might have a good saw. Got the first 744 and it had a problem with the rack and pinion fence. I had purchased a small contractor DeWalt 745 saw. But I wanted the larger 744x unit. Amazon shipped another unit and to my dismay it also had a rack and pinion AND fence problem.
Poor quality control. Tried adjusting it via the owners manual to no avail.
