I also own a 18v Skil high performance drill and saw and that works good too. Keep up the research because you will find what is the best buy for your hard earned cash.
I built a play house for my sons and I did a lot of ripping of 2x4s and it worked out great. It seems to be working great for me.
Save some money and order this reconditioned saw. the one I bought had some little scraches on the table top but not a thing that would effect the performance of the saw.
Amazon has been a good place to research products for me and to buy from. Skil is made by bosch but not as expensive.
I own other bosch tools and they all have been reliable.
The money saved buying a slightly beat-up looking used saw isn't worth it. Reconditioned is supposed to be "returned to like-new condition". The saw I received does not look new to me, it looks like a used saw. For a bit more more, you can get the new version with extensions and stand. Deep scratches in the table and some sawdust.
Thanks for a great saw at a bargain price. As mentioned in other reviews, the packaging left a lot to be desired. I received my fence this week. Without the fence damage this saw is worth five stars.
I contacted customer service and they're working on sending a replacement. The miter guage, blade guard and fence however, were tucked under the saw and were loose. It locks down tight and is very accurate once adjusted. Unfortunately, my fence was damaged during shipment. I'll update my review when my fence gets replaced-stay tuned. It took a long time for me to finally decide to buy this saw and don't want to ship the whole thing back, so I'll wait for good news from Amazon CS. The lockdown mechanism was bent and no longer worked.
I just received my recon saw yesterday. The saw itself was wedged into the standard styrofoam form fitting pieces that contained the saw in the box without shifting. The perfect compromise for someone like me who doesn't have the room for a full size one. Bosch sent a brand new one. The saw itself is wonderful.
The blade and fence were factory aligned to about 40 thousands of and inch, after working on it, I was able to realign it to less than 10 thousands of an inch. Then I found The Tool Crib. Although it was a factory reconditioned saw, I am not able to find so much as a scratch on it. I ordered the reconditioned Bosch 4000 table saw, because of my need for a compact, powerful, and precision working tool (for small furniture repair). I have been to woodworking shows and was impressed. I could not ask for any better saw. Smooth start up, and fine adjustments is just what I needed. I ordered the saw, and to my amazment, it arrived in 2 days.
