When it comes to jointers, there aren't a lot of differences among the leaders in the market. Like other manufacturers, Jet uses heavy-duty cast iron in the fence, jointer base, and infeed/outfeed tables and offers a three-blade drum and built-in 4-inch dust port. Their design, however, features a couple of innovations that changed our "jointers are jointers" mindset. While the infeed tables in other models can only be raised or lowered with a rod or lever system, this machine's design allows you to adjust both of the feed tables by rotating smooth, industrial-style hand wheels. This feature lends itself to easier tapers and gives you more control when you need to take off precise measurements, like 1/64 of an inch, a setting that can frustrate woodworkers lifting the arms up or down on other machines. The fence glides extremely smoothly throughout its range of motion and tilts both ways, but, where other brands offer fixed stops only at 45 and 90 degrees, Jet's jointer adjusts to quickly reproduce multiple cuts at any angle you find necessary. Driven by a 4,850 rpm, 1-horsepower induction motor completely encased in a welded steel stand, this jointer comes prewired for 115-volt outlets and can be converted to run off 230-volt sources. As a final touch, Jet designed the industrial start switch with holes behind the button for locking with a readily available Master Lock to keep coworkers or family members safe from accidental injury. --Justin Paul

JET 708457K JJ-6CSX 6-Inch 1 Horsepower Jointer, 115/230-Volt 1 Phase Reviews

If you don't, you'll at least need to clean the chip chute frequently. I give it four stars because although I've been woodworking for a long time and have done my research, this is my first jointer, so I don't have first hand experience with other products to compare this one to.

I've used mine regularly for about four months. If you do woodworking for a living, you'll probably want something better, but for the serious woodworker/hobbyist, I think this is a good product and I wouldn't go with anything cheaper.

I think this is a good value for the price. I compared this model with Delta, and couldn't justify the additional cost for the Delta.

Product shipment and delivery was quick and professional. Setting up the outfeed table and blades can take quite awhile (depending on how much of a perfectionist you are), but once I got it set, I've had no problem.

A few things I've found: using a vacuum/dust collector is a almost a necessity as chips accumulate quickly.

Two people needed to carry it down into my shop area, prior to assembly. Reviewing various models, I decided on the Jet 6CSX. Once it was assembled, set up was very easy. And the cuts were smooth as silk. Machine assembly is realtively easy.

Once turn on, it purred like a kitten, versus the noise that my 4" jointer used to make. For the money, this is a top notch machine and an asset to my work shop. It is heavy though. I had a 4" craftsmen jointer for years and decided to upgrade my shop with a 6" jointer. My shop is pretty small and this machine fits well in the spot I had picked out for it. I highly recommend that a mobile base be used if you have any intent on moving this jointer in your shop.

I tested flattening a cupped 4 inch pine board and after a couple of passes, the board was flat as could be. After realizing how heavy this jointer was, I purchased a HTC mobile base.

I picked the machine up locally, and so cannot comment on packing/shipping issues. If I have anything to report after that, I'll amend this review.

I have planed and jointed cherry, maple, ash, and cocobolo with good success and without any complaints from the machine. It runs with a smooth, powerful hum that suggests a solid, quality machine.

I have had this machine for about 6 weeks, and it has been flawless. Pretty straightforward to assemble (the manual is very good), and nicely finished.

But so far, highly recommended. I'm planning on converting the machine to run on 230VAC.

Dust collection with a shop vac is pretty good.

The rabbeting and angled jointing features are nice but with a routing table, I really haven't had the call to use these functions yet. I hadn't used a jointer in long time but found the Jet easy to align and adjust. Assembly was fairly easy with no major (or minor) issues. Since I have a DeWalt planer I bought the Jointer largely to finish off edges for panel joining and just plaing edge cleaning. This time Jet got the "nod" and I purchased a planer. I investigated Delta and Grizzly before deciding on Jet.

I always liked Jet products but for one reason or another selected other manufacturers for other tools. This is a great addition to the shop. Now that I have it, I use this tool all the time for edge joining. The jointer arrived as expected.
