Makita LCT400W 18V Compact Lithium-Ion 4PC Cordless Combo Kit Reviews
With the larger battery, this will still be a light drill. There is good and bad on the light weight drills and that is because the battery is so light, it isn't a very stable base to keep the drill upright when the drill is set down. I plan to spend the extra money to buy the larger capacity, heavier lithium battery to address both my complaints. The battery capacity seem poor compared to my previous Panasonic 15 volt drill. The fast recharge is the only saving grace, but that means I don't really have a spare battery to play the radio. The second hand often hits the drill chuck while the primary hand uses the grip. One last thing, because the drill is so compact, there isn't really very much space for gripping the drill when using two hands to apply pressure to push the drill/driver onto it's bit. It is easy to tip over and drop from where it is set down.
Radio - WOW. Light - Very bright - haven't used it much yet.
Impact Wrench - Stands up to STEADY HEAVY use. Drill - powerful but light.
What a great value.
It sounds great (lots of base) and operates more than the 8 hrs advertised.
Charger - 15 min charge - great for impatient people.
The batteries are so light, you do not even know they are there. You may want to use all of these tools, at the same time. The radio is fantastic. However, I took a chance on this package. I would suggest that you buy an extra 2-pack of batteries- if you do not already have them. Amazon.com made it right-fast. Everything works great. I needed a new portable drill.
I wasn't sure about the radio. Their customer service continues to impress me. By the way- I had a minor problem with my shipment. The drills both have more power and torque than I expected.
I have other Makita drills and while their nicads batteries are superior to Ryobi's,(whatisn't.:) this new lithium technology seems just the ticket.Long shelf life and 280% longevity. After deliberating ,I chose the 1.5 battery especially for light weight portability over the 3.0. With the balance , power , lightweight, 15 min recharge and new lithium 2.8x life I think this is a great purchase. Try them , you'll love 'em. I figure I can allways buy another battery if I need extended service and the 15 min recycle vs 1/2 hour being another strength for me. Even the radio is fantastic though you still need the charger.
My 9.6V have lasted over a decade, still have older batteries that take charges. My Milwaukee the batteries lasted just about 2 years. Overall it is pricey, wish it had 3 batteries, but the quick charger does a great job, in 15 minutes they are charged. One concern I had about the rigid was the fact that there seemed to be a problem with their batteries and people were having trouble with the "Lifetime warranty on them". When I tried the Makita it feels much better.
I had read many magazine and online reviews and had it narrowed down to this set and a Rigid Lithium ion. I have driven multiple screws no problem. I ended up getting the LCT400W, the radio sounds awesome, I was surprised with the sound on it, has MP3/Aux input, DC. It does run on other batteries, which probably makes more sense that using a LI on it.
. The other item I did not like is that the balance on the rigid especially with the larger battery was awkward to me. I picked this set up to replace my 9.6V Makita and 12 Volt Milwaukee. I needed more power as I have a big project coming up in building a deck.
I used it to drill 1/2" holes in Maple, No Issue, my 9.6 clutch would have stalled several times. I have not tried the Impact driver but will do so when I start fastening deck boards. So I did some testing with it, the Drill is powerful enough to run a 1" drum sander with no slowing down or clutch stall.
