The Porter-Cable 690LRVS 11 Amp fixed base router utilizes a hefty 1-3/4 HP motor to generate a variable speed of 10,000 - 27,500 RPM for ultra-precise cuts on a variety of stock. The micrometer depth adjuster keeps things incredibly precise to 1/128 of an inch. To ensure years of top-notch performance, the 690LRVS is equipped with a dust-sealed switch and sealed ball bearings to keep dust out. The included collets will accept 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch shank bits. Routing is made easy with the dual, ergonomic rubber handles strategically mounted on the router for easy, comfortable operation.

Yup. A previous reviewer suggested purchasing the clear base plate - I agree. This thing has fully met my expectations.
Great router and the variable speed is a must for using larger bits which can burn the wood if used at too high a speed. Also, it is much quieter than the old dewalts and milwakees that I used for years. Have used this model in my furniture business daily now for over three years and still going strong. Top notch Product.
Revised 1/14/07 - I was able to buy a new router - same model. The switch is sealed and is not very large, so it's difficult to tell if you've switched it on or off immediately. This is the 2nd time I've purchased an item from Amazon where the motor did not work out of the box.the other was the motor on a Delta jointer. After a week, I called for status and they said it was on backorder until mid Nov. It's performed very well so far with a fair amount of use. I haven't had an issues with frozen bits getting stuck in the collet and it's easy to switch between 1/2 and 1/4 shank bits. Bummer, but they did refund my money, so I'm buying another one.I'm hoping the product lives up to its reputation. I chose this one because of the favorable reviews, but it wouldn't start out of the box.
I took it to the local PC distributor and they offered to exchange it. Variable speed is a nice touch to avoid burning. This could be a safety issue, but eventually I'd like to set up a switch that I can mount on the side of the cabinet so I don't have to reach under the table to turn it on/off. It took 4-6 weeks to get a new motor.tough sledding when you're trying to work on a project.
I wanted a non-plunge router for my router table and this fit the bill. This is my first 'soft start' router and I like this feature. It has all the power I need and is easy to adjust from under the table.
