So I was disappointed and would not recommend it for any precision work, only as a rough cutter. Its main design fault is the slow speed of the cutting blade. Maybe for $20 it would be OK. Seems overpriced for what it is. I bought it for cutting fabric for garment making. I would almost go as far as to call it junk at the price of $52. Professional versions of similar cutters used in the fashion industry are more powerful and very high speed, allowing cutting around quite sharp curves without nasty jagged edges.
. Seems like Skil wants the customer to buy a new unit versus allowing us to. Very strange for Skil to do this. Difficult to use because of the on-off-switch location for someone with large hands. Concerned that a replacement blade is not available. . replace the blade.
This is a real fun tool. It is perfect for slicing into hard-to-open plastic packaging, and powerful enough to cut through quarter inch rug pads. The product is compact and easily gripped in either hand. Like a couple of other new Skil tools, its lithium battery holds a charge for several months.
it needs more power , I would like to see this tool with at least 14 volts or 18 volts.
The Skil Multi-cutter totally fits the bill. It holds a charge for more than 2 weeks when not in use and had plenty of power to go after the initial 2 hour use. I had been looking for a tool that would cut carpet and padding without damaging my hands. This product easily deservers 5 stars. It requires no maintenance and is solidly built to last. It cut through my old carpet like butter, allowing me to remove the pad and carpet in a 14x10 room in small managable load in less than 2 hours.
